Tips for Maintaining a Diesel Generator Set

Daily checks before start

  • Check oil level with the dipstick, top up to the upper mark if needed.
  • Check fuel level and drain water from the fuel filter.
  • Check for leakage, loose connections and abnormal noise.

Every 50 hours

  • Clean the air filter element; replace it in dusty sites.
  • Check the battery terminals and electrolyte level.
  • Clean the cooling air passages and the canopy ventilation.

Every 250 hours

  • Replace the engine oil. Use oil grade recommended for the ambient temperature.
  • Replace the oil filter and fuel filter.
  • Check and adjust the valve clearance and injection timing if performance drops.

Long-term storage

  • Run the set until it reaches working temperature, then drain the fuel or fill the tank fully to avoid condensation.
  • Disconnect the battery and store it in a dry place, recharging every two months.
  • Cover the set and keep it in a dry, ventilated room.
